Enzo Ferrari e Imola / Enzo Ferrari and Imola

“Imola, col suo circuito, avrà un vero e proprio piccolo Nurburg-Ring” (Enzo Ferrari).

Lo stretto legame fra Enzo Ferrari e l’autodromo di Imola affonda le sue radici negli anni precedenti alla realizzazione, quando ancora il circuito era il sogno di pochi appassionati di sport motoristici.
Nel 1948 Tommaso Maffei Alberti, presidente dell’ESTI, contatta Ferrari per manifestargli l’idea di poter costruire a Imola l’autodromo. Ferrari ne appoggia la realizzazione nella lettera indirizzata alla stampa, sottolineando gli aspetti innovativi e positivi che l’impresa avrebbe avuto.

Nel 1952 Ferrari cerca di porre la basi per la costruzione di un reparto corse distaccato a Imola. Resta a memoria di questo progetto non realizzato la corrispondenza con il presidente Maffei Alberti.
L’8 settembre 1970 si svolge la cerimonia di intitolazione dell’autodromo a Dino Ferrari, il figlio di Enzo prematuramente scomparso nel 1956.
A un mese dalla morte, il 23 settembre 1988, il Consiglio comunale di Imola vota all’unanimità l’intitolazione dell’autodromo anche a Enzo Ferrari, il cui nome si unisce a quello del figlio tanto amato.

“Imola, with its racetrack, will have a true small Nurburg-Ring” (Enzo Ferrari)

The close bond between Enzo Ferrari and Imola’s racetrack has its roots in the years before its construction, when the racetrack was the dream of few passionate motorists.
In 1948 Tommaso Maffei Alberti, the president of ESTI, wrote to Enzo Ferrari to share the idea of building a racetrack in Imola. The latter approved the project in a public letter addressed to the press and he underlined the innovative and positive aspects of this project.

In 1952 Ferrari decided to lay the foundation for the construction of a separate race unit in Imola. A correspondence with President Maffei Alberti testifies to this unrealized project.
On 8 September, 1970, the racetrack was officially named after Dino Ferrari, Enzo's prematurely deceased son, who had died in 1956.
A month after his death, on 23 September, 1988, Imola’s City Council unanimously voted to name the circuit after Enzo Ferrari too, joining his beloved son's name.
